President Ranil Wickramasinghe as the Minister of Defense has approved the order to detain and question two people, including the president of the Inter-University Student Police Force (IUSF), for 90 days, under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The other two suspects who will be detained for 90 days along with Vasanth Mudaliga, Galwewa Siridhamma Thera(the convener of the Inter-University Bhikku Federation) and Hashantha Gunathilaka who is an activist of the University of Kelaniya’s Main Student Union.
19 suspects, including three activists, were arrested by the police during the anti-government protest march held in Colombo on Thursday, August 18.
The court granted bail to 15 defendants and remanded another one until August 26. The three protest leaders, including Wasantha Mudalige, were initially detained for 72 hours subject to the approval of the Defense Minister.
