A leading rugby playing school in the island, St. Peter’s College has been found guilty of playing an ineligible player in the recently concluded Dialog Schools Rugby League and will not be able to participate in the upcoming President’s Cup Knockout Rugby Tournament. It will be operational from August 27.

The Disciplinary Committee of the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) held an inquiry into allegations of disqualification from two St. Peter’s League matches against Vidyartha Vidyalaya and Dharmaraja Vidyalaya, and the allegations were proved beyond doubt.

The final report of the investigation has been handed over to the Ministry of Education for further action.

According to reliable sources, St. Peter’s College will not be able to participate in the knockout tournament and will be relegated to the ‘A’ section of the ‘A’ section in next year’s league tournament.

The first match of the President’s Cup will be played on August 27 between Isipathana College and Dharmaraja College, followed by Vidyartha College and S. Thomas College, Wesley College and Science College and St. Joseph’s College and St. Anthony’s College.

The semi-finals are scheduled to be held on September 3 and 4 and the final is scheduled to be held on September 9. The venues are the Royal Sports Complex and Havelock Park. The Royals and Trinity will not be participating as the second leg of the Bradby Shield is scheduled for September 3rd.
